Step aside Coppola! Here come Chris and Jenny!

Chris has been trying to enlist my help in mini-movie-making for a few months now but I wasn’t especially motivated to learn video editing until I realized just how fun and easy it is. This discovery took place on Saturday, with the making of my first mini-movie, where I creepily recorded Chris sleeping for hours … Continue reading »

Sleepy Saturday

Today was Chris’ first full day as a free man, having just left his job at Old Soul to pursue school full time. Naturally, it’s been a very stressful day so far. It included a bagel breakfast at Noah’s bagels after sleeping in most of the morning, followed shortly by a several-hours-long nap and a … Continue reading »

Excitement? Is That You?

When I first announced that I would be heading to South Korea to teach English for a year, everyone wanted to know the typical details of where, when, and why. I was happy answering these logistical questions. But as the departure date came closer everyone began asking, “Are you excited?” And this felt really strange … Continue reading »

Pearl Jam “Twenty:” Review of the Reviews

Chris and I literally walked in the door about five minutes ago from the one-night-only showing of Cameron Crowe’s Pearl Jam documentary/concert movie “Twenty.” I thought it was absolutely great and the energy blew me away. We showed up about fifteen minutes before the showing and the line was stacked up the street. The Crest … Continue reading »

Doodles and Dumplings

I’ve been logging some crazy hours to improve my drawing skills. Most of the drawings I’ve done are line-by-line copies of YouTube tutorials but tonight Chris and I did some freehand doodles before a window-side dinner of chinese dumplings and rice. He drew me and I drew him, and dinner.

Gearing Up

Two positive developments in the way of Korea: 1. The family of the little boy I used to tutor is going to host me for two nights upon my arrival in Seoul! This is really awesome because it will give me a nice place to stay for free until my best friend Megan comes to … Continue reading »

Unemployment: Sarcasm & Gratitude

Being unemployed is just SO hard. It is so stressful and depressing to wake up whenever I want, to spend hours drinking my favorite tea and reading interesting books about life and medicine and philosophy. To nap when I’m tired, to meditate. To have a beer at lunch or wear yoga clothes all day long. … Continue reading »

Music on Thursdays

I hung out with Jenn today. She played me some music and it was nice to hear the piano again. We ran some errands at Target and she picked up a pack of gum that was half filled with “Daytime” gum and half filled with “Nighttime” gum. We had a fun time interpreting what the … Continue reading »

Delayed Visa and Some Consumerist Psychology

Since my departure for South Korea has been delayed until early October, I’ll be unemployed for about three weeks longer than I’d originally planned. This is an untimely discovery because I have already signed my resignation at the Co-op, leaving me unable to pick up any abandoned work shifts during the three-week gap. Luckily, I … Continue reading »
